Description

Bench Dog's No. 62 Low Angle Jack Plane is among the most versatile planes available. Thanks to its adjustable mouth, it can take rough surfacing cuts and fine smoothing cuts equally in stride. The 25° blade is set bevel-up at a low bedding angle of 12°, creating a total effective angle of 37°. This low attack angle slices through difficult grain, including end grain. The blade is exceptionally thick for chatter-free planing. Quality materials, precision machining and solid construction result in a hand plane that's an absolute pleasure to use. The sole is precision ground flat. The blade is made from thick 3/16'' hardened carbon steel for reduced chatter and excellent edge retention. Solid sapele is used for the comfortable tote and knob, adding a touch of elegance. Each plane includes a case, sock, manual and a Certificate of Inspection with measurements specific to your plane for sole flatness and blade hardness.

Features

A low bedding angle and adjustable mouth let you take the aggressive cuts of a jack plane and the fine shavings of a smooth plane.

I bought this handplane for my husband fo Christmas because he wouldn't spend that much on himself. He was super excited when he got it bu as he was taking it apart to clean the shpping grease so he could use it he noticed that the chrome was off of one of the pieces and it showed a rust spot already. While not necessarily a flaw that would impact performance, he expected more from $220 dollar handplane. Contacted the company through Amazon and it took a while for them to respond but eventually they did and said they would ship out a replacement. All is good at that point. He did not want to ship the entire plane back because he had already sharpened the blade and made sure the bottom was flat. We got the replacement part yesterday in the mail and unbelievable, the new part also had a small part off of the chrome plating! Now I understand that things happen, but if a company is making a replacement for a part that is faulty, why on earth would you not make sure that the replacement part wasn't perfect. That is the rason for the downgrade to the customer service to a 2.He would recommend you go to another manufacturer if you are looing to spend that much on a plane.
