I love Lars Von Trier ( we either love him or hate him) and so I was grateful to get to see this- apparently it was unavailable to U.S. for a while. Matt Dillon is stupendous. The movie is divided up into 5 “incidents” and they are horrendous. It is painstakingly produced with exquisite attention to detail (typical Von Trier) and I consider it an important contribution to modern cinematic fare. In my humble opinion Lars Von Trier is not for the faint hearted. If we understand that he is a tormented artist who aspires to purge himself of his demons through his art form (cinema), it is more palatable, but that is required to appreciate him. He is astonishing to me in his genius.
